The Importance of the Screen for Health Series
The free health screening hosted by Youngberg Wellness Centre on Sunday, April 30, 2023, was the first step towards better health for many attendees as part of the ‘Screen for Health Series: 7 Steps to Wellness’. This particular event, 'Step 1: What Do I Screen For Better Health?', was the first of seven events designed to provide participants with the knowledge and tools they need to take control of their health and well-being.

During this first event, participants underwent screening for body mass index, blood pressure, blood glucose profile, and lipid (cholesterol) profile, providing vital information for understanding their current health status. However, the knowledge gained during the screening is just the first step in the process. Participants will learn more about their results and health status in relation to the benchmark for each health parameter during the upcoming session, 'Step 2: How to decode my health screening results?' on Sunday, May 14.
A total of 111 people were screened, with 77 being friends or family invited by church members.
A team of 22 friendly volunteers were assigned various roles, ensuring a smooth flow for each participant going through each station and preventing long wait times. Each person was served quickly and efficiently, with a goal of 10 minutes per screening.
Participants were grateful to learn more about their health and well-being.
Positive Feedback from Participants of the Health Screening Event
Catherine Syn, a participant who attended the health screening after her friend's invitation, commented on the commendable efficiency of the team, thanking them for their care and concern.
Serene Lai, who brought her daughter to volunteer at the health screening, praised the event's well-organized and systematic approach, friendly and professional personnel, comfortable environment, and post-screening snacks.
Patrick Thian, from Maranatha Adventist Church, invited his in-laws to participate in this health screening to give them a taste of the church's holistic lifestyle that emphasises caring for our physical and spiritual health.
Sheila Villararaiz was grateful for the opportunity to learn more about her basic health status without paying for expensive medical checkups.
Kenneth Lee, who hadn't been to a church event in a while, found the caring atmosphere at the health screening to be a positive experience and was glad he decided to attend.
Several attendees also commented that the blood draw process was painless and that the phlebotomists were friendly and professional, making the experience comfortable and stress-free.
