All across Singapore, the Seventh-day Adventist community extends its hands and hearts, engaging meaningfully with our neighbours, since 1904. As we approach our 120th anniversary in 2024, our dedication to community service endures.
Health and education have been twin pillars of our mission from the outset. Rooted in history since 1907, San Yu Adventist School offers quality education as part of a global Adventist network of more than 8000 Adventist educational institutions across over 100 countries.
Our educational legacy continues with Adventist Schoolhouse, formerly known as SDA Kindergarten. It was the first kindergarten to be certified ISO 9002 in 1999, was awarded the Best Employer award in 2014 and 2018, and was certified as a SPARK preschool since 2011. In 2022, Adventist Schoolhouse received the Healthy Pre-school Platinum Accreditation by the Health Promotion Board.
In the realm of healthcare, the Youngberg Memorial Adventist Hospital opened its doors in 1948. In the 1980s, Youngberg Wellness Centre was set up as the health education department of Youngberg Memorial Adventist Hospital.
YWC has pioneered a number of notable community health programs, such as the renowned NEWSTART and the 5-Day Stop Smoking Program.
YWC is a member of a global network of over 150 Adventist hospitals and wellness centres, including Loma Linda Medical Centre in California.
From corporate healthcare to healthcare in homes across Singapore, our members live their faith beyond church walls, actively driving various programmes and initiatives that touch lives.
A cornerstone of this outreach is Adventist Community Services. Established in 1964, ACS has made a long-lasting impact in various ways. During Singapore's early years of nation-building, in the 1970s through the 1990s, ACS organised regular health screening programmes in different communities, educating the general public about healthy living. Through the Pay It Forward program, ACS works closely with different constituencies such as Moulmein-Cairnhill, Yuhua, and Geylang Serai.
PIF Day has been an annual event since 2009, uplifting lower-income residents with meals, health screenings, and shopping vouchers.
Building on this initiative, we introduced PIF+. Our PIF+ initiative sees our Wellness Ambassadors offering monthly holistic care to families in need, covering their physical and emotional well-being.
PIF+ Headstart is a special initiative tailored to offer kindergarten-age children a meaningful and relevant experience in community work. Supported by Adventist Schoolhouse, this programme gives children an opportunity to craft gifts for PIF recipients and engage with them at organised outings, fostering a sense of awareness and compassion for those less fortunate.
Established in 1997, Adventist Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre strives to help beneficiaries regain functionality and reintegrate into society through a blend of medical expertise, compassionate care, and community engagement.
With centres in Marsiling and Bukit Panjang, ANRC expanded its reach by adding a third centre at Pending Road in September 2023, further extending its services to beneficiaries.
Adventist Home for the Elders has been proactive in enhancing elderly care. As the first sheltered home to install an AED in 2009, they continue to innovate, offering Android games designed for seniors in a partnership with Nanyang Polytechnic.
Since 2015, they've also expanded their reach by operating three Senior Activity Centres at Golden Peony, Golden Clover, and Kallang Trivista.
In a consistent collaboration with Genesis Vegan Restaurant, volunteers at the Adventist Active Centres distribute over 250 nutritious lunch boxes every Wednesday and Friday. This initiative started during Covid restrictions and has continued, with more than 20,000 lunch boxes distributed so far.
Whether it is enriching the lives of our elders or fostering a compassionate new generation, our work has always been rooted in a commitment to serve our community meaningfully.
Our faith leads us to be a source of blessing, enriching the spiritual lives of our members in the process.
United in purpose and fortified by history, we look forward to a future filled with compassion, service, and spiritual growth—continuing our mission through our network of churches across Singapore.
