Tyndale's Gift

As promised the programme on the Sabbath afternoon of 19 September proved to be most inspiring and heart-warming. About 250 turned out at the Balestier Chuch. The lively singing led by Tan Pik Yee, Lizca Lee and Shirley Kan woon rallied enthusiasm. Using multimedia technology that displayed colourful lyrics of the songs on the screen the song leaders set the mood for an exciting afternoon. A video clip presentation of interviews with various soul winners captured the joy experienced by those who share Jesus with others.
Several students of the Amazing Facts course gave their testimony and expresed the excitement of discovering Bible truths that they did not know before. One such student was 70-year-old Michael Gan. He recalled how he became interested in the Bible lessons after he read those sent to his wife. The attractive design and easy-to-understand lessons impressed him. He was always looking forward to receiving the lessons in the post. Michael attested that the greated discovery from his study is the truth about the state of the dead - that they remain in the grave until the resurrection. He enjoyed studying the lessons so much that he shared it with his daughter, Elizabeth and his grandson, Ezra. What a thrill to see Elizabeth and Ezra stnad to their feet from among the audience as Michael introduced them!
"Calvary's Love" sung by Tan Pik Wan could not be a more fitting song to express Jesus' mission of saving everyone. First-time visitors got a visual introduction to baptism by immersion as they witnessed Thet Ngwe Ayea, a youth from the Southeast Asia Union College Church being baptised by John Tan.
Recounting the history of how the translation of the English bible came about, Victor Lee enraptured the audience with stories and animated slides in his presentation of "Tyndale's Gift."
The afternoon's programme climaxed with the graduation of 14 students. Seven of them received their basic diplomas and another seven were awarded the basic and advanced diplomas with gift Bibles. Fifteen students who handed in their door gift coupons received a copyu of the mazazine "The People of Hope." Another six visitors enrolled for the Amazing Facts course.
Members and visitors had the opportunity to visit and get acquainted with one another as they enjoyed a buffet dinner in the social hall at the end of the day.

The Champion Within You
Yan Siew Ghiang, Chaplain, San Yu Adventist School

This was the theme of the four-day gospel camp at the St.John's Island organized by the San Yu Adventist School.
With Victor Lee and John Tan as speakers and members of the Adventist Youth to Youth club leading out in the family groups, games and fun, this camp attracted more students of different nationalities. For many of them this was their first time.
The Sabbath of 5 Setember will be very special to at least two campers. Lionel Huang and Reuben Kee were baptised in the placid waters of the southern islands as those gathereon on the beach sang "I Have Decided to Follow Jesus." Celebrating with them were their respective familoy members And as if to manifest joy in heaven God opened the sky in a heavy downpour of rain.
One could sense a spirit of camaraderie among the students as different ones expressed themselves that Saturday night. some said they were glad they came. Others remarked they learned about being cooperative.to most of them the time spent was enjoyable, exciting and fun.
Fifteen students requested for Bible studies, nine accepted Christ as their Saviour and four indicated a desire to be baptised in the near future. We thank god for these decisions and His guidance throughout this camp.

Sexual Satisfaction and More!
Danson Ng, Family Ministry

It is a rare opportunity for couples to leave their busy schedule and meet on a weekend to focus on improving their marital relations. Escaping to the secluded Mayan Sari Beach Resort seven couples did just that!
It was just as if taken from a romanic novel - the white sandy beach, the sparkling turquoise ocean, picturesque coconut palms swaying in the cool gentle breeze, the clear blue sky, beautiful sunsets, starry nights, exotic gourmet and the night sounds of nature orchetrated like a lullaby.
Amidst this romantic setting the three-day Partners for Life Seminar began. Leading out as main presenters were Paull and Beckly Dixon, married for 34 years with two grown daughters. The Dixons have been involved in Family Ministry and marriange enrichment seminars for the past 12 years in the United States. They were assisted by their daughters, Kimberly and son-in-law, Zach Mozone.
Topics presented were: Planning Marriage Priorities, Affirming Your Partners, Roles and Responsibilites, Talking Together for Intimacy, Sharing Sexual Satisfaction, Nutrition for Healthful Living, Economizing for Effectiveness, Reconciling Differences - Anger and Forgiveness and Sharing Marriage as a Ministry.
The presenters shared experiences and struggles in their own married lives in an open and non-threatening way. They showed what real people's lives were like; how they gained inspiration and insights as they let God lead. A very special segment of the seminar was the time given after each topic for couples to talk about their own relationship just between themselves. This encouraged them to express themselves without misunderstanding and better appreciate each other. The session on "Reconciling Differences - Anger and Forgiveness" was most touching as Paull and Becky shared their own life story.
At the conclusion of the seminar couples were given opportunity to participate in a communion service followed by a renewal of the marriage vows and consecration.
