Beginnings:

The Balestier Road Seventh-day Adventist Church came into existence through the very first church the Adventists organized in Singapore at Penang Road 1909, and dedicated on 21 August 1909. Through the years the membership rose steadily and three different services were held to meet the need of the English, the Chinese, and the Malay-speaking congregations. Eventually, with the increased number in each language group, churches were organized. The English-speaking congregation was named the Singapore English Church. It began to grow slowly and continued functioning through the war years under the Japanese Occupation. During that time some quit attending the church, and some were killed, but a small number continued to meet in church. The young people of the church were especially active on Saturday afternoons with Bible studies. This gave life to the church. As a result of youth work during 1942 to 1944 fourteen new people were baptized and added into the fellowship of the church. In 1951 the Adventist Church purchased the Balestier Road Community Church building and assigned it for the use of the Singapore English Church. The church was opened on November 3, 1951 and dedicated on January 19, 1952. Today, it is known as the Balestier Seventh-day Adventist Church with over 200 believers worshipping each Sabbath.
