Beginnings

In January 2002 Chan Shee Wai and his wife, Debbie, were sponsored to Nashville Tennessee for the Church Planter Assessment to determine his suitability as a church planter. In March 2002 on the recommendation of a team of seven assessors, Chan began to formulate his church planting strategy for the North, recruit core group members and look for a place to meet.
The core group member began with a three-day boot camp during which they came up with the name of the group and formulated a mission statement. Through the influence of the Holy Spirit and the collective wisdom of the core group, the name, “The Ark” was decided.
On January 4, 2003, the first worship service took place at Chan’s house in Woodland with about 50 people. Praise God for His providential guidance!
